Barry completed his full time university education in 1980, having successfully obtained a BCom degree and an LLB degree. He then completed his 2 years of National service, serving as a Full Lieutenant and Professional Law Officer, after which he embarked upon and completed his Articles of Clerkship in 1984.
Barry was admitted as an attorney in 1985. He then spent a number of years as a litigation attorney with the large and long established Durban-based law firm of Garlicke and Bousfield.
He thereafter left the profession and went into commerce and industry, working in various Legal Advisory, Management and Senior Management positions, both here in South Africa and overseas, for a period of 16 years. During his sojourn in commerce and industry he also undertook MBA studies and qualified as a Fellow of the Institute of Life and Pension Advisors.
He returned to South Africa and the legal profession in 2005, working for a number of Durban-based law firms as a litigation attorney before joining Berkowitz Cohen Wartski Attorneys as a partner in 2008.
Barry obtained a Master’s degree in Medical Law in 2012. He is currently president of the KwaZulu-Natal Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (KAPIL).
